Hi Brian
Thanks for your reply.I don't doubt your project when complete will be of importence but it is just as importent to preserve aircraft remains in-situ on the crash sites.I have been to many high ground sites and I have never removed anything but photographs.you do say somthing which although often quoted by those involved in removing wreckage from crash sites is in fact a mith, you say that by leaving remains on a site they will crrode away or be taken by scrap merchants.I have found that the single biggest threat facing remains on crash sites is in fact "recovery groups" and I can state numerous cases of groups removing parts of aircraft from sites only to sell them for scrap, sell them to a private collector where they will probably never be seen again, dump them etc etc etc.

There is at present a big movement in the UK to get high ground sites preserved in-situ by making people aware of there importence.as I said in my last post please consider that many people who live in the area a crash happened, especially if they remember it happening or were involved in some way such as searching for the pilot, may not want the site clearing.also in the case of a fatel crash the families of those who died may not want the site disturbing,in fact I am in contact with the families of the crew of a USAAF bomber which crashed locally who have said they don't want anyone interfering with the site in any way.

It may seem to some that no one cares and parts on a site are being left to decay and are there for the taking but that is not the case at all.I wouldn't be at all surprised if you find that most National parks these days have a strict "look but don't take" policy towards crash sites.
