Subject: Turkey stuffed

I'm the turkey who stuffed myself on T-day.

Quite a cross-cultural experience.

Here was my Cherokee-Scots-Dutch self and my Scots-Cherokee wife running around looking for a Chinese graduate student who got stranded on campus to take her out to eat with my African-American colleague and his Russian wife.

He turned out to be a great cook. We did not find the student but it did dawn on me that because they don't have T-Day in China she was probably not too worried about our custom of gathering with family and friends and eating too much. And would probably be about as interested in American football as Bella.

Dennis (the colleague) and I got to talking and T-day means about the same to him as it does to me. We both often did not have much to eat when we were kids, and when we can put on a feast for family and friends...we are, dare I say it, thankful, for a prosperity we could not have anticipated. We are both overweight now...hmmm!

He fixed both a turkey (free range/no hormones) and a ham. Veggies a-plenty. Wine of several shades. Russian chocolate cake for dessert....I'm not sure what that means other than baked by a Russian, because everybody knows that chocolate got started on this continent...

Ate too much. Had a great time. Hope y'all did, too.

Steve
