Netta, I have a friend who is allergic to dust, but not to her dog, which has quite a lot of natural dust in his short but thick fur. He loses lots of hairs each day and she brushes him. She gets no allergic reations from him, but I can't be in their appartment without getting breathing problems though she uses the vacuum cleaner alot and everything is tidy. Funny.

Once she drove me someplce in the summertime and turned the vent of the car on and I felt the allergy; hair and dog dust was blown right into my face, so we had to turn the vent off. The dog had also been sitting in the front passenger seat. It's "the dog's car", so if I go for a ride in it, I'll have to accept the conditions of the family who owns it. I just never thought I'd be that extremely allergic, but it's obviously just to that specific dog. Other dogs I'm not so allergic to.

My parents took notice of the allergy when I was 1 year old. They had a German Shepherd dog. She watched over me; I was mom and dad's pup and she was "big sister" 'cause she was there before me. When I got sick and the doctor found out I was allergic... my parents decided to let her fall asleep for ever because if they would have sold her, they'd kept on worrying about her all the time not knowing if she's alright, fed well and well treated etc..

These are things I've known for a very long time, but the older I get, the more I understand what a pain it must have been for my parents to have to let go of this dog. She's on all old family pictures, so fine, and in a way I feel bad though I couldn't help what happened and how things changed back then. I don't really pray by following pre-determined standards, but some thoughts and feelings are stronger and so extremely sincere that your heart aches, depending on your mood and what's going on around you, so whenever I see the old pictures of R., or meet other dogs that feel like greeting me and I greet them back, I often send her a load heartfelt regards.

Some people say allergies are the handicaps of "civilisation". I don't know. I'm not so sure about that. It may be in your genes. My grandfather was allergic to the same things as I am, but his was worse as it was combined with asthma in the worst case. My father (his son) has no such problems. Genes and stuff you inherit that way, often skip one generation in the line and show up again in the next. I am much like my grandfather. He couldn't ever quit writing either :o) Period.
