Yes, the petition was a major surprise all around, both the initial response and then the die-off of interest when it came time to followup with delivery in realspace ....

after reflection I see it more as a result of the widespread support/'love' for Andre/OutKast and the personal hurt people felt about him treating the symbols of 'indianhood' that way .... people really expected he would make a personal apology I think, and when that didn't happen there was some retreat from involvement maybe? dunno, but the disappointment was almost palpable.

There's a theory that it's not when people are most despairing that a revolt occurs, but when they have some hope of a real change, a real chance to be heard .... maybe that's more of a compliment to Andre than we realize?

Whatever the reasons for that initial momentum may have been, it doesn't seem to have carried over into activsm in taking the protest to CBS or the Grammy Academy, which is really too bad, since I think those organizations are where some real progress could have/could still be made ..... and maybe IS being made, but we're just not hearing about it? Hope so :o. I really have come to appreciate how special JakeAl and his group are, and how lucky we were he decided to become involved :o))

peace,
sunny
