I am enrolled Cherokee. My family is from Park Hill, OK, but my father came to Texas at the end of WWII, met and married my mother here, and I was born and raised just north of the Dallas/Ft Worth area. Dad flew for Braniff Airlines and I have a brother and two sisters, all of whom live in North Texas. I grew up in a rambling house on the shores of Lake Grapevine, with horses, dogs, assorted wildlife and plenty of relatives visiting. (Some of whom WERE the "wildlife"! *G*) My grandmother lived with us and she was the youngest of nine. She died when I was ten.

I got a part time job at a Dallas radio station during my first year in college and that began almost of decade of working in radio and TV. In 1978, I left that business to try to sort out what really mattered to me. Commercial media is a very high pressure milieu and you are constantly surrounded by drugs and alcohol. Not good for me. Almost by chance, I stumbled into a way to combine a lifelong love of Cherokee stories and my desire to "communicate". For over twenty-five years now, I have made my living as a storyteller and a children's book author. Because it is a "free-lance" life, it has it's ups and downs. But I feel truly blessed to do work I love and feel is in some small way important.

I am married and have two children. Alan is 18 and fixing to graduate from high school and Sarah is 15 and a freshman. They are the lights of my life. My husband trims trees and has a one man business as well. We live in a small house on the Pedernales River in the Hill Country of Texas. When the kids are off on their own in a few years, we will probably leave Texas though. My husband says New Zealand; I say Oklahoma! Oh well, we'll see! Maybe HE will go to New Zealand, and I will go to OKLAHOMA! LOL
