I guess what I am trying to say that each of these person knew about their culture, history and are very much Native. I talked with the Shawnee woman and found her to be very native and very much a part of her culture. I found the Chinock guy the same. The only difference was one looked white and the other native. The federal recognization part of the Chinock was approve by President Clinton but overturned by Bush. I guess they fit into all the requirements. The Chinock guy told me that if you got the navajo people behind you they would help you with approval. I am not sure if they sit on a committee. The Shawnee woman said that they would like recognization but knew they would not get it.
I would like us to change our views about Native people because we all make judgments. We tend to judge by looks and I do not want to do that. I would like to change our views to the knowledge each person has of their Nation or learning about their nation. I know this would leave us open for some wannabe but they show their colors right away.
At ceremonies we have some blond that are with us who are enrolled members and we have full blood who are not enrolled members. I guess we all have to make a choice I choose both the Shawnee and the Chinock.
