------

J.T. started to grin... "Kay, I think that's the first INTELLIGENT thing you've ever said..."

I frowned. "My dear J.T.-chan, it may be intelligent, it may be easy, but I really don't feel like doing it that way, thank you very much." Rather abruptly, I sat down in the middle of the clearing and started rummaging through my pockets, muttering to myself.

J.T. looked at me rather oddly, and tentatively started to say something; "Jes-chan... What are you doing?"

"AHA!" I suddenly shot to my feet, holding out an amber-colored orb, slighly smaller than my palm. "This is what I was looking for, as it is the solution to all my problems."

Half-teasing, half injured, J.T. shot back, "Hey! I thought that was me!"

I smiled slighly mischeviously, and said, "Nope. Sorry, dear, not this time. I don't feel like relying on your hospitality again to get back to where I was, much as I enjoy being with you, m'dear. This little orb will take care of all my problems in just a few short seconds."

Kay scrutinized it closely from the tree he was leaning against, "Materia, is it? Which one?"

I winked at both of them. "Ah, but that's the thing. Why bother carrying around a whole lot of somewhat-useless materia, when you can have the Master Command materia? Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to get back to Europe." With a whispered command, I suddenly blinked out of the clearing, leaving behind a somewhat-bewildered at my change of attitude boyfriend, and his "brother".

"Kay, what was all that about...?"

-----

I re-appeared rather suddenly, standing on the second-level observation deck of the Eiffel tower. Luckily, because it was raining, there wasn't anyone around to witness my rather... sudden... arrival. Luckily, I still had my coat with me; I hurried towards the shelter provided by the elevator waiting area. In case I really needed it, I had my ticket still with me from yesterday, which would stand up to a cursory inspection, but I knew that I only needed it to go up, not down, which was where I was intending to go.

"Lucky for me that the Novotel is so close to the Eiffel Tower..." I muttered under my breath on the crowded elevator ride down. Luckily, most of the people around me only spoke French, so I wasn't getting too many stares. After all, I may be tall, but I appeared somewhat normal to them.

Exiting from the West pillar, I took a moment to re-orient myself, and check the local time. Nine P.M.... They would already be back in the room by now, and furious, no doubt. Lucky I had my key...

After a brisk walk of perhaps a mile and a half, I reached the familiar temporary-blue steps that led up to the Novotel I was staying in; merely a quick walk up to the top, in the hotel, and up the elevator to the thirteenth floor.

"How ironic, I would get to be on the thirteenth floor..." I murmured while in the elevator, alone. As I stepped out, I knew I had to be ready before I even opened the door. Ten hours gone is something a bit hard to explain, so I wasn't even going to try. But the problem was, I thought, that everyone would know that I was missing... Unless... Yes, I knew I could count on her for that, at least. It would only have to be a simple combination of a few spells; that's what I have the Master Magic materia for, I reflected.

Walking purposefully down the corridor to room 1313 (AN: No kidding, that was really my room number on the trip.), I already had the materia out, and was erasing and replacing my mother and sister's memories with the lie they had already nicely created for me; I was sick, in the hotel room, in bed that entire day. When it was all finished, I merely opened the door, and spoke.

"Hi, Mom, hi, Ellie."

My mother turned around, a slightly confused look on her face, "Hi, dear. Do you have your bags packed, the bus leaves at 5:30 tommorow, remember?"

I blinked, and recovered. "Sure, Mom, just a few last minute things to pack."

Ellie kept looking at me like she knew something was wrong, but couldn't figure out just what that was. "Jes, if you were sick, why were you out of bed when we got back?"

Mind racing, I thought up a plausible excuse, very very quickly. "I was at the café, next door, getting a drink."

"Oh." She looked like she was about to say more, but Mom interrupted her.

"Eleanor, don't forget to pack your bags too! We've got a lot to do, and it all has to be ready before we go to bed!"

Back again, and I missed it all, I reflected somewhat sadly. Ah, well, at least I didn't miss Versailles... But being in the states by 2:30 EST tommorow afternoon, that wouldn't hurt me one little bit...
