Hi Jay,

Sorry to hear your M3 went kaput. If you have not already, please submit a failure report to Jason's Archive (see link at top of page). This is important.

Our issue, as owners, is that BMW is not handling this well. It is commonly believed ( I believe it), that a "field repair" cannot provide the level of quality necessary for such a modern and expensive engine. It seems that most replacement engines going in are "rebuilt" aka "RMF" or "re-manufactured" units. Having the engine replaced at all will likely reduce your resale value significantly, which we owners do not like. I'd certainly try to demand a new motor from Germany. "RMF" is probably just as good (some say there are even advantages to having a broken-in block). Either way, don't let them just swap out a few parts from the bottom-end of the engine. That sounds likely to result in future problems. Get a complete short-black.
