Subject: Engine Falure/Spun Bearing 2002 M3 JR17xxx

I took my car in for its oil service at 9500 miles and told the service writer that the engine also had just begun producing a tapping sound at speeds above 3000 RPM. As it turns out the #6 bearing had spun and now the engine is being replaced. What a huge mess !!!

FYI this is an SMG coupe produced in June of 2002, JR17xxx.
Check your VIN's!

Additionally the service counter which started out at 15000 miles when I took delivery, was counting down linearly, all of a sudden took a quantum leap sometime in the spring and therefore I ended up needing an oil service (and a new engine) at 9500 miles rather than 15000.
