Subject: The engine on my 1999 M Roadster blew up

I just has the engine on my 1999 M Roadster blow up. 26,000 miles on the car. I service it religously and treat it like a baby! On Friday morn. the engine started making bad nocking sounds. The oil light came on. I called BMW Dealer and they said take it in. I asked is it OK to drive they stated it should be. NOT TOW IT OR DONT DRIVE IT!! 40 Minutes into the trip to the dealer (DC traffic is terrible at 4:30OM on friday's) the engine dies on the side of the road 5 minutes from the dealer. I get it towed. The warranty expired 5 months ago. The dealer called me Monday to tell me that the engine was over rev'd to 8200 rpm's and I must have missed a shift and blew my engine ($13,000) to fix. I asked details about the DME readout and they told me that the engine was over rev'd 24 minutes before the car died. THAT WAS ON THE WAY TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE ENGINE WAS MAKING TERRIBLE NOISES!!) I also know that I did not miss a shift and that if it did over rev (I dont recall an 8200 rpm rev at all) it HAD TO BE a result of something other than driver error. I am currently in talks w/ BMW NA and they are sending an investagator out. The dealer thinks that they will help with some good will gesture. Any suggestions? Does this sound like the S54 engine issue? I know that its an S52 in my car but you never know. Please email me tdeyulia@rpginternational.com with any and all advice!
