Subject: Knocking in hell!

Can anyone please tell me the true and proper way to knock in a bat. I've spent a total of over six hours over the past two years knocking in my particular blade of choice and still it sounds like a piece of badly beaten tin!! Ok so it has a middle but it sounds a mite tender to my ears. What am I doing wrong?
How does anyone knock in one of these things without 1/ getting a wrist like Spanky's or 2/ tanning their wrists?
