Subject: Help!!!!!

Hi I own a Toshiba pentium four laptop I don't know much about laptops. I recently took my computer to a conference where I was using it for power point. I was using the ac adapter and was sure to shutdown the computer properly. Upon arriving home I tried to start it up again to access some files i have stored on there. All that happens when I turn it on is the light showing it is getting power from ac will come on and the battery light is on the little light above the icon comes on and flashes every time i try to turn it on. But nothing after that if you know what may be causing this and have any idea of how i can fix this please reply. Any help or advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
