Subject: Video Resolution Problem

My Thinkpad 770 was working fine when I stored it in my Bag. When I went to use it later about (2 months) the screen came up half sixe. about a 4 inch black margin all around it. It has a defunct battery but that never stopped the screen from going full size. I am using the proper power adapter. It is a great machine but this screen size is terrible. I tried changing resolutions to 800x600 but nothing changed. How can I get it to go full screen? It has a Trident video pkg with 1 mg memory,
