Hello! Everyone. Its a holiday here in Manila today, so i took advantage of my free time browsing through my old LPs and 45s, I came across and old MECO LP (remember them, he hit no. 1 with the disco version of Star Wars). The LP is entitled Encounters of Every Kind, which features the disco version of the theme from Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Among all the instrumental selections, one that caught my attention was TOPSY written by Richard Carpenter. It was a great intrumental! Its makes you feel like listenin to a record written in the 20's. The same song was featured at the old Donny and Marie show with Dezi Arnais Jr and Donny osmond. I just hope that Richard would continuing writing great songs for other artists. Does anybody know of any Richard music that never got any publicity. TIOPSY was never mentioned in all of the Carpenters biographies or articles that Ive read. Anyone who could enlightened me regarding TOPSY or any unknown Richard Composition...........Thank You

I knew that LP, but never had it in my hands.
I owned the Star Wars LP by MECO.
I am a Carpenters fan since 1973,was a member of the fan club, I own the Coleman book and I have read many articles , but never, never heard about that song named Topsy.

I have never heard about Topsy either. I'll have to find out more information about the song.

I did some research and Richard Carpenter did indeed write this song. Now I'm prompted to find more out about the origins of the tune. I will be back with more info soon.

Upon further research I have come to find out that the Richard Carpenter who wrote "Topsy" is not our Richard Carpenter - but somebody else with the same name.
I discovered this by looking over my old Carpenters fan club newsletters. It was in Newsletter #58 dated March 1978. It's part of the newsletter's question and answers.
