I had a talk with Joe at Accurate Fishing today. He has gone over my reel and found nothing wrong with it. In fact the free spool is exceptional. He suggested, as politely as possible, it might be that I was not casting it properly. I have a feeling he is right.

I expected to cast it like a Calcutta or a Penn 965. I forgot that it was a lever drag with a rather heavy spool for a small reel. The critical part is getting the spool started turning (ah yes shades of Newton's law of inertia if I recall my high school physics).

They are returning to reel to me and I am going to practice with it out in the back yard a bit. Do you think albacore would survive in the swimming pool? :-)

Joe's suggestion was to cast it like using a jig stick. Let the line come down almost to the reel. Get a good swing going and let it fly. It will take more energy that casting the small baitcasters I am used to.

I will be practicing over the weekend and will keep you all posted.
