RE: ..."civic leaders are seriously considering trying to revive the tourist trade with a psychedelic blast from the past; a towering 60-ft-high lava lamp." Who are these unmentionable civic leaders that want this blast from the past? Come on, we all know that Soap Lake's population is made up of 60% retired and elderly. That vague line, civic leaders, reminds me of the old wornout advertising phrase, the catch-all that says, recommended by leading doctors. Most people's hunch is right. Many say this whole lava lamp issue and advertising campaign is as phoney as can be. The lava teams claims that they had to shut their internet message forum down due to a sudden spike in traffic which zoomed to 20,000 hits in one day after CNN released the lava lamp news. On the actual downside of things, the promotors seem to be unable to tell the differance between bad publicity and good publicity. Maybe the real civic leaders should consider renaming the City of Soap Lake to protect the innocent commoners who have no interest in supporting a psychedelic blast from the past or better yet propose that those prone to seek fantasy move on to Fantasy Island so the City can get on with real prudent business.

maybee if you had some kind of tourist attraction you would have more "prudent business" than you could ever imagine, i think it takes a no brainer odd ball idea these days to spark the attention of everyone, this idea is along the right track and maybee it will generate enough new jobs, population increase, and income, that it will at the very least pay for itself, and every single person in the world would definatly have to stand and gaze for a good half an hour or so, or maybe a half a day, and still not even begin to have seen what this thing can do, you could return every year and sit for a half a day, this idea is a very good no brainer, such a good no brainer that it is going to shock the hell out of some folks when people from all over move to this town to live just because of what they can do on a fri. sat. night and never get bored, i think you opposers should be more concerned for the population of the out of soap lake small towns when everyone wants to move to soap lake, and start stocking up on home builders and thinking about makeing some real cash for a change, people should take advantage instead of standing by and gripeing while the filthy rich get filthy richer, all in all this idea should pay for itself many times over i think this thing will pay for itself a few times over in the first year, quit complaning and just go with the flow, like its really gonna hurt your eyes, should be very beautifull!

i can vouch for me and hundreds of my friends and associates to say if you build it we will definatly come!!!!
many times!!!!!!!!

You just might be right pal. The no-brainer bird-brain idea may fit. Birds of a feather do flock together. If you or anyone else thinks that a giant bottle of glob is the ticket to tourism, you better get your hip-boots out cause you see the flood coming. A cheaper and more brainy scheme would be to move all the town's people to LA where the real live action is. The lava lamp is a joke.

sit and watch as people get rich beyond their wildest dreams, if and when this thing goes up the narrow minded rants that oppose this happening will hush up and and most will act as if they knew it all along, even though they know they opposed in the first place, this is the little action that draws the invisible line between rich and poor sitting on your duff and complaining will do nothing, did your mom tell you not to say anything at all if it wasnt nice, that is not only to protect the feelings of the people you are refering to, also to protect your pride and to not make you look like a blithering idiot when the person(s) you are refering to turn out successfull no thanks to you, this action is what makes people famous and gives them drive to do what they know they can if only to merley prove you wrong! if you think the only reason this town will flourish is because of a "big gloop in glass" you are displaying a narrow mind, the reason why this will give soap lake the little bit of an edge it needs to drive millions here, is the millions are already set to go they just need a reason to stop, this place is right in the middle of all kinds of people going back and forth to and from seattle and spokane, the two most populated cities in wa. and just barley miss soap lake because of 20 miles, i dont know about you but 20 miles is not too far for me to drive to see somthing i will never again anywhere in the world!, very odd also that millions of people just pass on through soap lake in the summer to see the awsome grand coulee dam, and to camp along one of the most beautifull and nature filled areas in the northwest, oh by the way the fishing at rufus was the best i have seen in my life thanks for asking bob, and yes i have no problem driving six and a half hours just to fish it again, like i did yesterday stayed at center lodge motel and recomend it, but if their was a giant lava lamp in soap lake i would stay their at least three times a year and drive an hour more in the morning just because of what i could do while i was relaxing for the night, and i know i would be joined by millions of others just passing through, enough said, just the travelers would make this town a close second to seattle or spokane!

Have to hand it to you cbellsells@hotmail.com, you exhibit a great sense of humor and a wonderful vivid imagination. Bet you could put your thinking cap on and even come up with an idea that far surpasses the giant lava lamp. Best of luck to you cbel and your "hundreds of friends and associates" who plan on coming to Soap Lake to see the Lava Lite in full bloom.
