Subject: original bendex depth transducer
In reply to: Caleb M31 Ardea 's message, "transducer" on - Sunday - 01/ 6/19 - 6:00pm

Thanks for your help. Do you think the old transducer can be removed and a new through haul transducer installed in its place while Malaga is on the hard?

No worries.

You could do that, I guess how hard the job would be would depend on how close the size of your new transducer is. Rough measurements of 100x70 for the transducer and 120 x 80 for the wood block. Both taper to 10mm wide at the leading edge.

On our boat it is quite hard to access the hull on the inside where the transducer is, I can feel it but not see it.

Malaga has a 5"+/- round access hole in the cabin sole right above the transducer which is located on the starboard side just aft of the head. It looks as though the transducer is set down into a caulk bedding compound attaching it down into the block of wood. I installed a water maker years ago over the top of this access hole. Once I remove the water maker I can get a better look at what's going on. It seams like this original outcrop in the haul would be a great location for a new modern transducer. Any more info related to the original installation would be great. Thanks
