I just ordered lumber to fix mine from Public lumber in Detroit a 1x8 for 4.67/lf. I am sure being on the west coast you could find it cheaper, there are lots of books on how to build your own...just a thought

If I were going to make my own mast for my mariner 31, what type of wood do you use. And could I just take my mast off and duplicate them. Thanks again

Go with aluminum masts - you should be able to pick up some salvage masts and booms that will work - call around to local boatyards to get leads. You will not regret it. You will save yourself lots of weight aloft and maintenance headaches. Salvia has aluminum masts and it is a significant upgrade...
