According to Bill Griggs' Buddy Holly Day-by-Day (volume 2), Buddy and Jerry backed up Carolyn Hester at a recording session in Clovis on July 15, 1957. There are also candid snapshots that feature Carolyn Hester with Buddy and Buddy's parents; I believe Buddy was photographed riding the New York City subway with Carolyn ca. August-September 1957 after The Crickets first traveled to NYC:

July 15, 1957: A Carolyn Hester recording session at Norman Petty's studio in Clovis which produced the songs "Scarlet Ribbons" and "The Wreck Of The Old Ninety-Seven". Both tracks featured Buddy Holly on acoustic guitar and George Atwood on bass. The session lasted past midnight and was completed after an overdubbing session for "The Wreck Of The Old Ninety-Seven". Jerry Allison played brushes on a cardboard box for the sound of the train. Gordon Hester, Carolyn's father, played harmonica for the sound of the train whistle. [Carolyn Hester had three known recording sessions for the songs in her Scarlet Ribbons album. On the other two dates, Buddy was on the road touring and as he is playing guitar on the two songs mentioned above, this is the default date for the session.]
