I do agree that not many people say that the Bopper was an influence, but the songwriter aspect of his career does merit consideration. The novelty artist era of rock and roll was short lived, but he was more than a novelty artist. With that being said, I do think think he had a hall of fame career in regards to his songwriting. He wrote early hits for George Jones, who is considered a huge influence on country singers who followed. I should have been more clear in my post in regards to the category in which he could go in if he is inducted. I am sorry, but rap artists should not be inducted. This is the rock and roll hall of fame. Early country and blues artists are fine because of how they influenced rock and roll. In the songwriter category, the Big Bopper had a hall of fame career and possibly for his broadcasting career as well. The Big Bopper may be the most underrated performer of the 1950s. He is very deserving of recognition for his career.
