 My sources are Buddy Holly scholors, who do their research properly - a couple of whom frequent this board. If they feel so inclined, they can identify themselves. I'll leave that up to them though.

Is Gribbin's work reliable, or does it rely on many of the myths that have surrounded Holly after his death?

Petty has also been quoted as saying he wrote the lyrics, after Holly played him the melody during a flying visit to Clovis. Holly asked if he (Petty) could finish it up, and put some words to it. I have a feeling that may have been in Goldrosen's book. I'll have to check.
