In reply to: Casey 's message, "Re: Buddy's Master recordings Lost in 2008 Fire" on Tue June 16, 2020 07:24:43

I'm afraid you may have missed the tone of my email, or I did not express my idea properly. For that, I apologize.

For my idea to have any hope of being realized, a third party, independent of the UMG and Hoffman camps, would have to broker an initial conversation, hopefully leading to a positive outcome.

This is the sort of thing that I have always wished MEH would
engage in, as the de facto and logical steward of Buddy's legacy.

The late great B. Griggs tried his best with this sort of issue, but was often stonewalled by the MEH camp.

Mr. Hoffman would not have to admit to anything if UMG actually cared about the artistic output of such an icon as Buddy. Rather, they could actually celebrate the recovery of either the tapes themselves, or excellent quality digital transfers directly from those first generation tapes.

These could become the basis for a new, much improved boxed set of at least the 50 or 60 most important of songs recorded in Clovis, Nashville, Tinker air force base, and New York.

Can you imagine the incredible amount of free publicity this would generate, particularly if such a release was tied in with the grand opening of the Buddy Holly Hall?

The mind boggles with possibilities of the surviving Crickets being available to sign copies, and much like a first day cover in the stamp collecting world, extra special
editions of such a release could be sold exclusively at the venue.

This would be an item that every serious fan would be proud to own, so long as the packaging and audio quality were first rate, and worthy of such a momentous occasion.

The damn thing might even win a Grammy.

Believe me, I am most often on the pessimistic side of issues. These days it's difficult to not be.

For this one item, I like to dream in the affirmative that the shared love of Buddy's music, combined with the opening of the incredible new performance hall, just might open the door to something terrific and joyous being achieved.
