One complaint some critics have made is that the movie is too "overwhelming" because events speed by one after another too quickly.

The director recently said this is because his original cut is four hours long! He had to cut the film down to a more reasonable length to satisfy the studio and distributors.

In Luhrmann's longer cut, Elvis's story is shown in more detail. The estrangement from Scotty and Bill, for example, is dramatized in more depth, while in the shorter version it's barely addressed.

So who knows? Maybe after the theatrical release you'll see a home version on Blu-Ray with all the deleted scenes to flesh out the movie.
