Thanks for the detailed response.

You are certainly correct, we are in lockstep pretty much with
the method used to De-Mix these mono tracks and convert them to stereo.

As I suggested, we only have a small disagreement on what they should be called, and in some cases how successfully they have been converted.

I'm aware I have already lost the wider semantic tug of war on this point, as most listeners prefer to keep descriptions simple, and the creators of the de-mixed versions most certainly want them to be referred to as STEREO.

This is all the more important to those who are now marketing CD collections of these "mono to stereo" creations.

As I stated, I do find some of them to be quite interesting
and I can only assume the technique will continue to improve.

*here is my redundant caveat: NO ONE should be proud of themselves if they create a "stereo" version of a classic
by adding additional (least of all, their own) music or vocals.

* I also admit to allowing for a specific exception:
If the original musicians, possibly even the original producer, were to carefully "sweeten" some mono recordings,
I could accept the procedure if the end result was respectful of the original spirit and feel. Long before the new digital technology, an album of Elvis classics was produced (I Was The One, 1983). In the early days of cassette walkman popularity, I enjoyed those less than state of the art overdubbed versions a great deal. The additional tracking was by many of the original musicians with the very best of intentions.
