I don't know if John Kalodner has any imput at all in determining who gets a solo contract w/ Sony, but if he had ANY imput at all, he certainly knows (bless his heart) and has stated many times how much Steve Perry is missed. I'm not just talking about with Journey, but as a SOLO artist. Even JDK said he wishes Steve would either return to Journey OR as a SOLO artist. I don't think getting a label is the problem. I think touring is the issue with getting label support since that's where they make their money, not with CD sales. Steve has to be willing to do at least some sort of tour, I would think. Kalodner says he hasn't said one thing that has motivated Steve so far. I'm hoping all these good vibes we are sending to him help!
