Lynne,

I do not know about the diabetes meds you are on, but I do know quite a bit about the prednisone (and autoimmune diseases for that matter). 15 mg of prednisone is a rather high dose (as is ANY dose over 7.5 mg - which is what your body NORMALLY makes of cortisol). It is probably the reason for your diabetes. I do understand about not being able to get off the prednisone, as I am unable to do so as well (for asthma-like condition caused by an autoimmune disease). I take a steroid-sparing drug called 6-mercaptapurine (6-mp) that allows me to stay at a lower dose, 7mg. Before the 6-mp I was unable to go below 12.5 mg of pred and I was STILL having flare-ups. The 6-mp is no picnic, as it is a chemo drug, so it comes with it's own side effects to worry about, but for me, it was a better alternative. Work with your doctors regarding the med changes!!! Make sure they look into ALL options with you!!!

Please feel free to email me anytime on here of privately :)

Ivy
