Anne,

Hope you don't mind me jumping in on this one...I have dealt (and am dealing with) some of the same issues. The weight on my belly does seem to go down after a while of being off the steroids (or in my case, down on them). Some people find that reducing salt and carbs helps...I actually find my body responds BETTER to salt and carbs, but my tummy is weird do to gastroparesis so I need to eat easy to digest foods.

As for the exercise...I find that water exercises are MUCH easier on my joints, and it HAS to be warm water!!! I live in "sunny" S. FL, so on the days is not raining (LOL), I use my grandparents pool, but on days that it is I use my bathtub. I know that sounds weird, but it really helps to do my leg work in there!! I also use a balance ball for abdominal work. I cannot do crunches, thanks to a tear in my abdominal wall a few years ago, so I do pelvic tilts and bridges with my legs on the ball. They seem to work well and NO pain :) Also, for the sore joints, drink PLENTY of fluids. When the steroids leave your system, they make your body THINK you are dehydrated, hence the sore muscles/joints...so be sure to get your 8 glasses of non-caffienated/non-alcoholic beverages in!! Most people find that water works best (again, I am weird, so soda works best for me...but only the kind with sodium in it).

Good luck in finding a doc...I know how hard it can be!!

*Have you looked into Medicaid?? I am on it because I am disabled also and they pay for EVERYTHING!!

Ivy
