I understand why you are questioning the medication...steroids, even nasal steroids DO have the risk of causing cushing's syndrome. However, once the medication is stopped it USUALLY goes away within a few months, but it can take up to a year (depending on dosagage and length of time taking the medication). I have NOT heard of a nasal steroid lasting in the body for that long, though, or causing permanant damage...considering that the doctors have run cortisol levels on your son which have been normal. Have they run an ACTH level? That could also indicate a problem with the adrenal glands...also, when they ran the cortisol level, was it a fasting/AM level (which is the "gold standard")?
I hope you find the answers you are looking for!! I know how frustrating it is when there is no known cause for a medical problem (I am going through that right now actually)...
