My wife, who had stage 4 lung cancer, was scheduled to have radiosurgery on 2 small tumors on the brain. The radiosurgery was delayed so two weeks after the mri, Nov 14th the Radiologist prescribed 8 mg of dexamethasone each day, for 18 days.
My wife was on a holistic diet and was doing well. On the 20th of Nov she went shopping for an hour by herself. Thanks giving day, Nov 25, she had a good time and was doing well. Nov 30th we go to the movies, she has a tough time getting up from the seat, first notice of muscle weakness due to Dex. Then,12 days later my wife is dead. The 18 days of high dosage Dex lead to the death of my wife.
I had no clue the dangers of Dex, the dr's said it could help restore use of her left hand that had become useless because of the 2 brain tumors, the larget being 2mg. I was just to focused on helping her regain use of the hand.
After the fact I found out the dangers of high dosage dex.
First, Dex raises blood glucose, which feeds cancer. High dosage Dex is a multiplier of BG.
My wife had a cat scan on Nov 4, the stomach was unremarkable and the lung tumor had receded, this was excellent news.
My wife was struck with 5 side effects of Dex because of the high dosage which we found out at ER (Dec 9) or earlier
1 lowers immune system Dec 9 she had pneumonia of stomach
2 ulcers on her esophagus advised of Dec 10
3 kidney failure (dehydrated) advised Dec 9
4 Myopathy I had to carry her Dec 7,8,9
5 Cancer of the stomach Dec 11 The hi BG did its job

To recap, on Nov 4, no problems with abdomen, lung tumor receded, no other problems, we were elated.
Nov 15 8 mg, 4mg am, 4 noon, for 18 days. There is no doubt in my mind that the Dex killed my wife because that is the only variant in her holistic diet, including minimizing sugar, even fruit (she had bloodwork done 14 times from April to Oct, bg avg was 114. She had a horrible death due to Dex(look at all the debilitating side effects), all over 7 days from Dec 6 thru the 12th.
From Nov 30th she feels fine at the movies, 12 days later she is dead.
Her BG on Dec 9 is 199, double the norm of 70-99, and this is after I had reduced the dosage to 2 mg on tues and 2 on thurs, (4 mg past 3 days to wean her off Dex). What was it 18 days of 8 mg per day. The Radiologist onc did no blood work over the period.

This is a tragedy because my wife would still be alive if I was aware that Dex raises blood glucose. I would not have given the Dex if I had known. I spent literally 1000's of hours on the computer with supplements, and webb sites, and alternative cancer therapies, including conference call with Dr Ralph Moss, on how best to fight stage 4 lung cancer, but all to no avail because I didnt question or check the side effects of Dex. I did check the prescription writeup from the pharmacy but it does not mention 'raise blood glucose' as one of the side effects.
My wife's pain has ended but mine just begins for I failed her insofar as she had implicit faith in me and I didnt do the due diligence on Dex that would have saved her life.
The sad thing is Dex is a standard protocol by Rads for brain tumors to keep the swelling down. 2mg may work but 8 mg per day for extended period of time is lethal.
My intent is to get the handout from Pharmacy to show 'will raise blood glucose' and also high dosage should be curtailed after 3-4 days with appropriate blood work to see effects. Of course the Pharm company will fight this so what should one do. I am about to go to a Wrongful Death Lawyer but my interests are more to identify the side effects than to collect funds, which is what the lawyer is interested in. Either way, this needs to be publicized and people made aware, because fighting the establishment is an impossible task.

These events have to be publicized as to the dangers and what better way than the internet.

The question is how do we get the word to the masses that the Dr's are allopathic, they treat the patient with drugs (or surgery). The misuse of drugs leads to the deaths, as in my wife's case, multiplied by 100,000 as referenced above. Also, to many ONC dr's treat the patient as an RG, revenue generator, they really dont treat the patient to help fight the cancer thru nutrition and supplements to build the immune system, thats not their job. Thats why when you go to Oncologist office they have bowls of candy for the cancer patient getting rad or chemo, they want to help feed the cancer they are fighting. Also, at the American Cancer Society web page Corticosteroid side effects, 1 lowers the immune system 2 raises blood glucose.
If Oncology is to fight cancer, how can you prescribe Dex that lowers immune system to fight cancer, and increases blood glucose that feeds cancer. Normal cell has 4 sugar receptors, cancer cell has 92 sugar receptors. A cancer cell needs 24 times the amount of sugar the normal cell needs so if you raise your blood glucose, what cell are you feeding/promoting.
