Subject: Endo appt update

Saw my endo yesterday. Lab work is all normal except ACTH is <5 and white count was >16,000, apparently none of this is unusual for someone taking 15 mg of pred per day.

I brought him the medical journal article re: a case of lymphocytic hypophysitis successfully treated with Imuran. We discussed starting me on the Imuran. At first he seemed willing to do this, excused himself for a few minutes, then came back in the room and asked if I was married. I told him no and he said the reason he asked was to determine "if there was anyone else involved that needed to be aware if I started the Imuran, lost all my bone marrow and died from this, they should be involved in the decision." My jaw just dropped! He said this catastrophic side effect is extremely rare, and he would feel more comfortable giving it to me if I were on 60 to 80 mg of pred, that being on 15 may not be worth the risks. He wants me to drop by 1 mg per month and see him again in 2 months so he can do some more research on this. At that point I will either be down to 13 or still at 15 and he will decide then how to proceed.

He did explain to me I would need to have blood work weekly for the first month on Imuran and then I think it was monthly after that.

I'm a little frustrated by this, but just have to trust his judgment on this one for now.
