Subject: New to this board; Decades of topical steroids and CS

I'm new to this board, spoke to Leslie earlier today (thank you, Leslie!) about my (mis)adventures having been rx'ed strong topical steroids since my teens for psoriasis (I'm now 52), and no diagnosis despite clear CS signs since age 16 and adrenal failure in my 30s after steroid withdrawal.

I diagnosed myself when an insulin sensitizing drug for my type 2 DM caused me a year of what turned out to be increasing symptoms of adrenal insufficiency. I came off the steroid and the insulin sensitizer, improved, then moved onto excess cortisolemia. The endocrinologist washed his hands of me once my dexamethasone suppression test came back normal; seems only a tumor would capture his interest. He said my adrenals are "stressed." No sh*t. :-)

I've done a great deal of my own research on this and my other conditions, I've found certain well studied supplements that help, though Your Mileage May Vary. I'm a few months into this after 35 years of nearly unbroken steroid use, though the amount was cut and my hump went away in the 90s. My symptoms seem to rollercoaster; one day I feel like my adrenals have failed me (extreme fatigue, body pain and red, swollen face the day after hosting Xmas) other days they're in overdrive.

I lost 34 lbs during the year of severe adrenal suppression/insufficiency leading to all this, and am trying to stick to protein right now for my DM and my appetite, which is rising with my cortisol. I felt sick, dizzy and nauseated for a year to be this size; no way I want those
lbs back!

Susan
