Remember back when 'The Killer' aired and everyone was so upset with the shower scene? Kip had said that the finished product didn't quite come out the way DPB had wanted it. Sounds like the same things, but where does the fault lie?

Okay, some of it may lie with the actors. They're only human. They can make mistakes. They can get tired. DJE's wife is due to give birth any time now. CB gives birth in two months. Chuck Carrington has a new baby at home. I'm sure these are people who might have more on their mind than doing their jobs. But what we see on the screen is not totally on them ....

Writers are responsible too. There are directions written into scripts telling how scenes are supposed to be played usually. But what if they're not clear? Let's go back to the shower scene in 'The Killer' for a moment. Let's just say, for argument's sake, that the script said Harm was supposed to be (embarassed). Well, how embarassed? There are degrees to emotion. Maybe he didn't act embarassed enough. Maybe in 'Friendly Fire' (and 'Ready Or Not'), DJE and CB were a little too harsh. How are they supposed to distinguish the difference, what is too much or too little?

Well, that's where the director comes in. It's his (or her) job to bring it all together - the writing and the acting. The director (one that's any good, anyway) is supposed to be able to draw out the best in the performers and the material. It's all a matter of interpretation. But the director is not alone in interpreting the material ....

And that's where the producers come in. In this case, DPB specifically. JAG is supposed to be his vision. Kip says DPB has not been happy with the performances of late. Well, where has he been? I understand that last season he was busy with First Monday and this season he's working on the JAG spin-off. Maybe this has led to him being a bit hands off on JAG. But it does sound like from Kip that DPB is doing something about it.

I don't think the fault lies in just any one place. There are a lot of elements that go into what we see on the screen and it's probably a series of breakdowns all along the line.
