A really good question, to which I don't have a very good answer.
Some British and American people, of course, APPROVED of Hitler's policies towards the Jews. Watch the film Remains of the Day. And check out the 'Battle of Cable Street'.
Most people, however, were horrified by Nazi anti-semitism.
