Yes, chamberlain bought us time to re-arm and prepare for war and we may have won the war because of that but was it not appeasement that actually gave the opportunity for the war to happen in the first place? Germany wasn't that strong after the treaty pulled her apart, we let Hitler start rebuilding his navy, airforce and infantry. That was appeasing. Because of appeasement we gave him an army with which he used to take land from other countries, slaughter the innocent and attempt the domination of Europe! If we hadn't appeased hitler to start off with, a war against Germany wouldn't even last a week! I'm sure we could have had Hitler arrested at least for trying to break the treaty. Germany was not strong enough to fight until we gave way. We never stuck to the Treaty, we never backed up the League. Surely it is our fault for the second world war.
Not only that, we lost trust from other countries and gained the reputation of being pushovers.
Appeasement failed. War came. You won. What can I say? We were lucky!
