Wow, I won't leave the house with mine on! I suppose I could if I had to just like I got over people seeing my braces when I first got them. I have metal (pretty obvious) and didn't tell anyone before I got them so some of my friends were really shocked when I suddenly showed up one day wearing braces. I would get your ortho to explain everything in detail so maybe you can work something out or at least understand what he is trying to do. Mine doesn't volunteer that much but is really good about telling me stuff if I ask why I have to do it. Like right now he says my headgear is doing most of the work so I know I need to wear it as much as possible (he said ideal would be all the time - right!), if I don't my overall treatment will be longer but I will still get there. You may be surprised, OK 18 hours is a stretch but 12 hours isn't that hard for me now and I usually do better than that if I wear it all the time when I am home. Sometimes I have a real short day but I do the best I can, good luck !
