I had them removed a month and a half ago and I have already seen a huge improvement, even though my lower gaps seem like they've hardly closed. I didn't want extractions and asked about elastics only but was told I would have a really "gummy" smile. Some people have used elastics and no extractions, I think it just depends on your specific case. Hope this helps answer your question some:)
