Hi Dea, I had been really worried because my teeth were tender and loose and 'clicky' (especially after flossing, when I pushed my teeth with my tongue, they would move with a 'click')I was worried about the scraping off of cement and the impresions (I had dreams that my teeth fell out when I brushed them!) and I woke up this morning with REALLY tender teeth (must've been clenching during the night!)
In the end, although the scraping etc was uncomfortable, my teeth felt surprisingly firm. I have permanent bonded retainers, but because of the missing teeth I have (my canines are now where my laterals should be) I only have the upper 4 front teeth bonded and my lower 6 front teeth bonded. You can't see them at all from the outside.
I am yet to eat anything I really avoided with braces, I chewed gum all the way through my treatment with no problems and I am chewing gum at the moment and it feels no different bitewise. The only downside I can see to having bonded retainers is flossing, I am an obsessive flosser and it will drive me mad not being able to!
I hope I have been of some help to you, and good luck for the 19th! the experience when you first see your teeth 'naked' again is unbelivable!
