Apart from sticky things, you can eat almost anything you want, as long as you prepare it appropriately. I was warned off raw carrot and celery (which I don't miss) and a friend with braces said "You're eating an apple! I haven't had one for 2 years". )
I simply grate the carrot and cut the apple into thin slices. I cut the corn kernels off the cob (but they do get stuck behind the archwires). Luckily, I'm not interested in junk snack foods so if I want a snack, I prepare an apple and put up with the fact that I will need to clean, afterwards.
Yes, these things are a nuisance but they keep me on a good diet.
