I don't know what a more technical name for them is. I just call them bumbers because they keep my upper teeth from clinking into the lower brackets.

Mine are on my first molars--the same teeth with the band. All they do is polish a little and use materials similar to what you would get in a composite filling to increase the height of your teeth.

I had two installed when I first got my braces put on April 7th. One of them fell off, though, and they weren't very high. They weren't too bad, but they are very strange.

These, though, I was absolutely miserable. They're rather high, and although it didn't hurt too much, it was very uncomfortable and annoying. Whenever I would close my mouth, you'd get this strange sensation. I don't even know how to explain it.

And then it feels like the bands are going into your gums because you're not used to that bite and you're biting down too hard. I'm getting used to them now, though.
