When you first get your braces, you probably won't realise how carefully you need to check for wires that will stick into your cheeks and may well need to go back after a few days to have them trimmed or bent. Also, your teeth may well move quickly and this may cause your archwires to protrude from the back of the buccal tubes and these will need to be shortened or bent to prevent discomfort.
Pain is a very individual thing. My braces didn't hurt me at all but others are not so lucky.
