Braces are a big adjustment. I got mine on a Tuesday and went out of town on Friday. It wasn't a total nightmare, but I spent a lot of time being very hungry, because there weren't a lot of food options for me. I was just getting used to having the braces and learning what I could and could not eat in public. Plus you may be in a lot of pain - my teeth were not sore, but all of the little odds and ends that were new to my mouth drove me crazy for the first few days.
