I thought I wouldn't be able to get orthodontic work on the NHS so was ready to pay whatever it took. My dentist referred me (at my insistence) to the ortho my son was being treated by. I was as shocked as anyone when my ortho said it would cost approximately £360 (initially we were considering a maryland bridge to replace my missing laterals but I decided against it, but that would have added a further £120 apparantly)
I honestly don't know how or why it was funded by the NHS, I didn't ask, I was just thankful that something could be done.
Have you looked into this recently? Does your dentist surgery have an attached orthodontist for children? (mine didn't, but my ortho was the one that children from the local area regularly were referred), are there any local orthodontists you could phone and ask for advice? Have you asked your normal dentist if you could be referred?
I hope you can find an ortho willing to do your work.
