Ask your ortho what kind of wire you're wearing. My ortho won't even begin to think about powerchains or elastics until the patient is up to a stainless steel wire. He said that the reason is that the other wires are too flexible and can allow the powerchains and elastics to pull the teeth into crowded positions. The stainless steel is very stiff and doesn't give in to the pressure but allows the teeth to slide along it to close the the gaps. I'm sure your ortho knows this. Its worth asking.
