Hi! I am a 36 year old female who recently got braces (2 weeks ago). My doctor, Dr. White, recommended the Damon III braces for my top teeth and the Damon II for the bottom teeth (they are more crowded than the top). He also recommended that I have one upper and one lower teeth removed. I was very affected by the extractions, it was traumatic and a bit painful. I had already had my four wisdom teeth removed almost one year earlier.
I am going back to Dr. White this coming Friday to get the wires put back on. I am wondering how long does it take to close a gap left by an extraction. Dr. White says that it's a fast process, but I need to know an approximate time. Even though, I don't have any problems with the braces themselves, I feel self-conscious and "ugly". My children (two young daughters) call me "braceface". I want to be able to get the braces off sooner rather than later. I know that in approx. 2 years I will have beautiful teeth, but in the meantime I am really affected by all the trauma. Am I the only one who feels this way? ANY SUGGESTIONS? All the information I have read regarding the "new technology Damon Braces" does not answer all the questions I have.

Lorena
Sylmar, California.
