But why should the teeth be loose after having the braces keep them in the exact same spot for a month?

Well, the speech problem doesn't seem as bad now, and perhaps I was exadurating a little about not being able to close my mouth. So I'll probably be okay with this retainer I guess...

One other thing, do you think that wearing it more often than perscribed (16 hours/day) will help the teeth "set in the bone" faster?
