I don't have an opinion 'good or bad,' but I just got metal put on the top this week and I'm glad I did. I had originally wanted ceramic so the braces wouldn't be so obvious, but the doc I chose finds they're harder to work with and accordingly charges $500 extra. By the time this week rolled around I'd gotten so much encouragement from this web site and from my family and friends about getting braces, that I didn't feel at all self-conscious about showing a little metal. And, as I expected, everyone who's seen my tin grin so far has had positive reaction or didn't mention it at all -- if they even noticed. I have nothing against ceramics and I'm glad that choice is out there, but for me, I ultimately couldn't justify the added expense for a little extra dental camouflage. And the fact that I got an estimate of just under $500 to replace the air conditioning ducts in my house is a sign from the universe that I made the right decision!
My only advice (since you asked) is to find out exactly how much it would cost to get ceramic and decide if it's worth it for you, compared to what else you could get for the same money.
