When possible, my ortho uses a white teflon coated archwire on the top. He uses white tie wires when they are needed. The brackets don't stain, are smooth and are larger than the metal brackets. They don't show up well on pictures, which is a good thing. We went on a cruise and had some formal pictures taken. You'd be hard pressed to look at them and see the braces.
