I have ceramic on top and metal on bottom...its nice that they hardly show up, but I kind of feel that people do a double take and stare at my mouth because they can tell something is on my top teeth, vs. if I had metal on the top they wouldn't bother looking so hard because they would know it's braces, but w/ the clear, it's tricky, they're trying to figure out what the heck it is....also, the ceramic's are much bigger and (UGHHH!!!!) the ligatures (rubber bands) stain really easy, at least the clear ligatures do. I've only had my braces for a month and I'm anxious to get these stained ligatures OFF! (They stained the 3rd week I had them and I don't eat curry or smoke) My metal bottoms are still shiny and tiny and I kinda wish I got all metal. Oh, if your teeth aren't white-white, I wouldn't get ceramic: it's too much of a contrast...overall though, ceramics are cool and discrete, aside from those icky and annoying stained ligatures which isn't very attractive.
