You're probably not supposed to, but as long as you clean your teeth really well after words, I bet it will be okay. But if you're really concerned about it, then don't, or wait until you get a chance to ask your orthodontist.
I think the reason you cannot eat peanuts is because they're hard and may break the bonding of a bracket, but I'm not positive.
