They work really well. There's a cordless model that you can find online for about $30. (I got mine at a pharmacy and paid a little more.) The drawback to that is that the water reservoir is small and you have to refill it. Or you can get a larger model with a cord, which will cost a little more. The only drawback to that is it takes up more space on the counter. But both of them are wonderful for getting bits of food out from under your braces.
